In a world of dynamic changes and growing competition, brands are seeking effective ways to build deeper relationships with consumers. One of the tools gaining importance is sponsorship – understood not only as financial support for events or organizations in exchange for company logo exposure, but primarily as a long-term partnership based on shared values and goals.
Sponsorship as an investment, not a cost
Treating sponsorship solely as a cost is becoming a thing of the past. More and more companies see it as a strategic investment whose results can be realistically measured—both in terms of building brand image and achieving business objectives. Thoughtful sponsorship activities can influence brand recognition, increased audience engagement, and the creation of positive associations and emotions.
Participation in initiatives close to the values of a given community allows the brand to become more authentic and credible. Moreover, sponsorship strengthens reputation by demonstrating commitment, responsibility, and willingness to support important areas of social, cultural, or sports life. Such an approach opens new opportunities—both in maintaining relationships with current business partners and acquiring new potential clients.
The foundation of successful cooperation
The basic principle not to be forgotten is that sponsorship is a conscious partnership in which both parties should mutually benefit. A key factor is an approach based on mutual trust, transparency, and clearly defined expectations. Both the brand and the sponsored entity should define their individual needs and shared goals they want to achieve at the start of cooperation. Only then is it possible to build a positive relationship that brings real results to both parties.

How to plan effective sponsorship?
Effective sponsorship is not a matter of chance—it requires a thoughtful strategy based on analysis, alignment, and a long-term approach. Already at the planning stage, it is crucial to conduct a thorough preliminary analysis (the so-called ex-ante) that allows assessment of whether a given initiative actually matches the brand’s objectives and has the potential to generate expected results. It is worth using tools that evaluate the media potential of a discipline, event, or organization—among others, regarding the anticipated audience size, brand perception, and community activity. It is also important to consider the so-called media niches—less obvious but often more effective communication channels that enable reaching a precisely defined target group.
Equally important is the analysis conducted after the campaign ends (the ex-post). Reports provide important data on actual reach, frequency of contact with the brand, engagement level, and qualitative assessment of impact on brand image. The obtained information plays a vital role in evaluating the cost-effectiveness of activities and planning further sponsorship initiatives. They also help optimize the budget, choose the most effective communication formats, and better match partners to the target audience.

Sponsorship planning should therefore be a continuous process — based not only on intuition but above all on data, analyses, and informed decisions. Only then can sponsoring a given initiative become a real tool supporting brand development, rather than a one-off action with uncertain returns.
The potential of sports sponsorship as a marketing tool.
Sport continues to enjoy huge popularity in Poland — according to the “Fan Power” 2024 report prepared by ARC Rynek, as many as 93% of Poles declare that they at least occasionally follow sports competitions. This makes supporting sporting events and athletes an effective tool for building emotional connections with audiences. Fans strongly identify with teams and athletes, and a company that accompanies their successes and shares their values gains authenticity and is perceived positively, which translates into a lasting relationship.

The latent potential of using sport in marketing strategies is also evidenced by data presented in the “Sports Sponsorship Market 2025” report prepared by Sponsoring Insight. In 2024, its value reached nearly 1.5 billion PLN — 8% more than the previous year. Such a strong dynamic confirms that sport is becoming an increasingly important investment area for brands seeking effective communication tools and image building.
Presence at sporting events – brand advertising worldwide
The scale of potential reach of sports sponsorship is also confirmed by data from the Media Monitoring Institute reports. For example, during the Roland Garros 2024 tournament, publications about Iga Świątek, Hubert Hurkacz, and Tomasz Berkiet reached 40,000, 13,000, and 1,410 mentions in the media, respectively. This translated into reach of 1.171 billion, 430 million, and 77 million respectively.

Additionally, athletes’ achievements on the international stage can positively influence the media value of sponsorship — successes, emotions, and presence at prestigious sports events such as the Olympic Games or international tennis or football tournaments attract media and fan attention, enhancing the visibility of supporting brands and building their recognition in a broad, often global context.

Effective exposure strategy in sports marketing
Sports sponsorship offers a wide range of possibilities in terms of brand exposure. The most common method of advertising is placing the sponsor’s logo on athletes’ uniforms or the clothing they wear during interviews, as well as on the equipment they use during competitions.

Equally effective is displaying the brand on advertising spaces during sporting events, such as boards, screens, billboards, or backdrops. An important aspect of sports marketing is also active communication between the sponsor and athlete with fans, who often are the company’s target audience. This can include joint media appearances, press releases, or placing logos on graphics and banners in social media. It is also common to mention the sponsor’s name during breaks in the event.

The industries that most eagerly invest in sports marketing are primarily the energy and fuel sector, FMCG, and gambling. The most popular disciplines include football, volleyball, and basketball due to their immense popularity, high media reach, and broad audience.
Sponsorship as an element of ESG strategy
Modern enterprises increasingly focus on issues related to social responsibility, environmental protection, and corporate governance (ESG). In this context, sponsorship appears as a natural extension of these efforts, enabling companies to support local initiatives, promote a sustainable lifestyle, and engage in education and development of young talents. Such action not only contributes to building a positive brand image but also significantly enhances its authenticity in the eyes of customers and partners.

At the heart of events – where brand value is born
Effective sponsorship today is much more than just having the brand on banners or promotional materials. It is a thoughtful, strategic presence at the heart of events, allowing companies to build authentic relationships with audiences, strengthen reputation, and gain increased customer loyalty. Through well-chosen partnerships, accurate target group identification, and actions based on shared values, a brand can become an integral part of important social, cultural, or sports initiatives.
It is emotions, engagement, and authenticity that today constitute a competitive advantage — and sponsorship, conducted consciously and long-term, becomes one of the most effective tools to build them. In a world where audiences expect not only a product but also a stance and responsibility, a brand present at the center of events gains not only visibility but, above all, significance.
